Miners Ride Momentum from Kenai

The Miners won 4 of 5 down in Kenai to improve to 14-4 on the road so far this summer. Their problem has been playing at home.

They dropped the first home game back from Kenai against the Oilers. They just could not find a key hit in order to pull out a win. David Stilley had the best peformance of his career going 9 innings and only giving up 1 unearned run. This was the 2nd time this season a Miners pitcher has gone 9 without giving up an earned run and both time the Miners lost and both times it was to the Oilers.

Luckily they found the bats for the next 2 games. They took advantage of 9 walks from the Fire pitchers in order to blow them away to keep up their winning streak against the AIA. They then had a game for sole posession of first place the next day against the Bucs. The Miners first 5 guys in the order started the game by only failing to reach base once in each of their first 2 plate appearances. That helped them score 3 runs in each of the first 2 innings and ride that 6 run lead to the W. The Bucs tried to post a comeback but fell short 9-5.

So the Miners are a game ahead of the Bucs for first but finish out the year with 6 of their last 8 games against the two other contenders, the Bucs & Pilots. They head down to Anchorage for 3 straight games down there. A lot will be decided in the ABL race after those three games.
